INTEGRATION OF TARGET LANGUAGE CULTURE
BY NATIVE AND NON-NATIVE SPEAKING TEACHERS

I prepared this research paper when I was a junior at Bogazici University. If you are interested in cross-cultural studies in TEFL, please contact me. I'd be more than happy to
have a discussion about this topic and share my studies with you. I can email you the whole research paper if you get in touch with me.

ABSTRACT

Recently, there has been a great deal of muddle about whether native speaking EFL teachers cause cultural imperialism in the countries they teach. My major initiation in this study is to examine whether this situation is valid in Turkey’s context. For this reason, I compared NS with NNS EFL teachers in terms of their viewpoints and classroom applications with regard to integrating culture into their classes. This paper encompasses the similarities and the differences between NS and NNS EFL teachers.

Even though no extreme differences between NS and NNS teachers were recognized, novel and interesting results were found, some of which contradict with common views that NS EFL teachers present more cultural information than NNS EFL teachers.
